I am known to my friends and acquaintances as Rezaul (pronounced as Reza-ul).

I was born in 1945, in British India (now Bangladesh)

My father was a Senator in the District Council Assembly.
I graduated in civil engineering from a reputable university known as Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka in 1966.
Soon after, I was awarded a scholarship from the government of Turkey to study Masters of Science (Msc.) in Structural Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey.

After completing my MSc. in 1971, I joined an engineering firm in Germany and worked on the design and construction of buildings for two and a half years.
In 1974, I joined the University of Birmingham, UK to pursue my Doctorate (PhD.).
In 1978, I was conferred the PhD. in Structural Engineering.

After receiving my PhD., I worked in a consulting engineering firm in Birmingham (UK) for 4 years.
In 1983, I moved into the academic world by joining the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), which was a highly reputable university in Singapore. I started as a lecturer and after some years, I was promoted to Associated Professor.

In 1989, I moved to Sydney (Australia) to join as a lecturer, at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).
I taught students on the fundamental subjects in Structural and Mechanical Engineering, for 28 years and I retired from teaching in 2016. I feel proud to have taught some ten thousand students in UTS and NTU, who have been working in many organizations and they will never forget their most favored teacher known as “Dr. Karim”.

Since I retired from UTS in 2016, I have been heavily involved in charity work in my village in Bangladesh, where I was born. I established a Primary Health Care Centre, a Computer Training Centre, an Adult (women) Learning Center and a Pre-Primary Children Play and Learning Centre. These projects have been going well.

Now I am busy establishing a High School, Technical High School and Vocational High School. All infra-structure (eg. buildings) for the above projects, have been completed now (as of 2022), in spite of the delays due to the 2020-2021 COVID-19 restrictions.

The Middle School has commenced in January 2022.
I have also introduced a ‘Goat and Lamb Donation’ Project, to help the poor local villagers.

My hobby is traveling, listening to Bengali Tagore songs and socializing with friends.
